The Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)Climate Center (APCC)/Climate Prediction and its Application to Society (CliPAS) project was formally established in April 2005 sponsored by APCC. One of the objectives of CliPAS is to develop a well-validated Multi-Model Ensemble (MME) prediction system and to study the predictability of the seasonal and sub-seasonal climate variations. Under the current project, CliPAS is a coordinated research community consisting of 12 institutions and involving a large group of climate scientists from United States, South Korea, Japan, China, and Australia.

The APCC/CliPAS team has strived to address forefront climate prediction issues through coordinated multi-institutional retrospective forecast experiments and analysis of 21 models¡¯ two-decade long hindcast. We advanced our understanding of what can be expected to be predicted, which is a prerequisite to efforts in climate prediction. We held two successful workshops and discussed various aspects of the project, which provides a vision for how APCC evolve into future.
