This is an animation of model upper layer thickness (ULT) anomalies (long-term mean removed). The model was forced by a zonal wind patch (see below) that oscillates with a 30-day period. The center of the forcing is on the equator at 134E. The model was run in "linear" mode with a 1x1 degree grid, and the results are given for each day (one frame per day for 210 days). The upper panel is for a model grid without land. The middle panel is the same model run with a land mass in the northeast corner, and the bottom is the difference (top panel minus middle panel). Note: the upper two panels have the same color scale, but the lower panel (difference plot) has a different scale.

The model wind field is given below. Panel a shows the zonal wind stress along the equator, and panel d shows the zonal wind stress along 134E. Panel c shows the entire wind patch. The temporal variations are given in panel b, with the time axis in months.
