This is an animation of model upper layer thickness (ULT) anomalies (long-term mean removed). The model was forced by a meridional wind patch that oscillates with a 30-day period. The center of the forcing is along the east coast of Australia (150E, 12S). The model was run in "linear" mode with a 1x1 degree grid, and the results are given for each day (one frame per day for 150 days). The upper panel is for a model grid with a land mass in the south-central basin. The middle panel is the same model run with land everywhere to the west of 150E, and the bottom is the difference (top panel minus middle panel). Note: the color scale is the same for the top two panels but not for the lower (difference) panel.
