   ABSTRACT

As we all know climate change is very popular inside and outside the scientific community. As we all know, climate change is not only a "hot" topic in Washington but also here in Hawaii. Government, legislature, water resource management, tourist industry, agriculture and farming industries, insurance companies, etc. have a growing interest the future of Hawaii's climate. I would like to invite you to a meeting where we could discuss how the IPRC/APDRC can effectively contribute to our understanding of future climate change in Hawaii. Some of you already have been working on this subject or will commence research on it. The goals of the meeting are: - get an overview about the ongoing/planned research activities - explore our expertise that is at core of climate change studies for Hawaii. - strategies for 'downscaling the AR4 scenario runs to regional Hawaii- scale' - discuss how we could form a strong initiative at the IPRC/APDRC - define goals and products that are attractive for other institutions (IDEA at the East West Center, ICCS) and end users like the Government. - funding opportunities.
