IPRC's Shang-Ping Xie Elected to the Council of the Oceanographic Society of Japan

Shang-Ping Xie , team leader for Indo-Pacific Climate research has been elected to the Council of the Oceanographic Society of Japan (OSJ) for a two-year term beginning in 2007. The OSJ organizes two scientific conferences each year, and publishes two scientific journals: Oceanography in Japan (Umi-no-Kenkyu) in Japanese, and the Journal of Oceanography in English.



IPRC Scientist Yuqing Wang to serve as Associate Editor of 'Weather and Forecasting'

Yuqing Wang has been asked to serve as an associate editor of the AMS journal Weather and Forecasting for the term beginning in January 2007. The journal publishes research on techniques for weather forecasting and analysis, forecast verification studies, and case studies useful to forecasters. Director Jay McCreary and Kevin Hamilton, Meteorology chair and IPRC research team leader, talk about climate change on the Hawaii Public Radio show "Beyond the Reef" with host Alvin Adams. They were joined by Andy Nash, director of operations at the NWS Honolulu Forecast Office, and Gerard Fryer, seismologist at the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Featured in Newsletter of Japanese Ocean Think Tank

The Ocean Policy Research Foundation in Tokyo has published in its Ship and Ocean Newsletter (May 5, 2006) an essay by IPRC Director Jay McCreary that features the International Pacific Research Center and its activities. Professor Toshio Yamagata, who is co-chief editor for the newsletter, translated the essay into Japanese. (read more)
